Nirupa Roy was an Indian actress who was known for portraying the role of the Indian mother stereotype. Nirupa Roy played the heroine and the hero's mother in late 70s and 80s. Nirupa's acting career spanned more than 50 years and the lady acted in more than 250 movies. In 1946 Nirupa Roy made her debut in acting with the Gujarati film Ranakdevi. The same year she acted in her first Hindi film Amar Raj. Among her popular films was Do Bigha Zameen (1953). In the 1940s and 1950s Nirupa Roy played mythological characters. She acted with co-stars like Trilok Kapoor, Bharat Bhushan , Balraj Sahni and Ashok Kumar .
